Mustache Music Monday: Jayber Crow

without comments

Let me introduce you to the fine gentlemen who comprise the band Jayber Crow.

Zach and Pete bring us their beautiful music from the frozen lakes of Minnesota, and you can certainly hear the miles of midwest farmland ring through with every note.

Their “Indie Folk” style is a unique genre that’s hard to find nowadays with folk music not being widely heard since the 60s and 70s with the likes of Fleetwood Mac and Doc Watson. While this enthusiastic duo may not be the foremost presence on the scene, they are certainly one of the more impressive in terms of natural talent and mustache growing capabilities.

Please give these guys a listen.

I’m sure that they, and their mustaches, would appreciate it.

***Update: I was informed that while pete is on the left, the man on the right is their friend Shawn from The Wapsipinicon and Cloud Cult.

Carstache: The Official Breakdown.

with one comment

Nowadays there are many people out there willing to make a quick buck selling you whatever they can. Be it yet another infomercial selling cheap jewlery or the village medicine man with his magic potions, it pays to be wary. So who CAN we trust?

Well, if you want a solid buy worth your money, check out the cheerful gents over at Carstache. While it’s easy to be skeptical of something sold for the hood of your car, I can assure you first hand that it will certainly hold up.

When opening my Carstache, which I won from one of their many facebook giveaways, I expected s thin flimsy object. But I was pleasantly surprised to find that not only is it of a substantial and durable thickness, but also of equally tough materials. I was all the more impressed after driving across winter roads with my carstache picking up only a fraction of the salt that my car did.

My only words of warning are these:

  • They put three anchor points on the back for a reason.
  • (Nothing is more startling than a Carstache suddenly flipping upside down at 45 mph.)

Mustache Music Monday: The Doobie Brothers

without comments

ANNNNNNDDDDD we’re back again!

Yes, you heard right- another Mustache Music Monday. And it’s over none other than The Doobie Brothers! While these lovely men made their music decades ago, it still sounds wonderful no matter how you listen to it: mp3, cd, vinyl or marching band. Even if you don’t recognize a song if you listened in.

So take a gander at those thick lip mittens flowing like “Black Water” down their face, into Fu Manchus that could practically be called a “China Grove.”

Mustache Music Monday: Geographer

without comments

Well, for this Mustache Music Monday I bring you another obscure band, but their mustaches are anything but obscure.

Geographer is a band out of San Francisco with mustaches that are out of this world.

Through their wonderful music it’s easy to tell tell that “Heaven Waits” for anyone who’s willing to grow a stache- or just give their music a listen.

Have A Stache-tastic Thanksgiving

without comments

House full of relatives? Just want to get away to a better place? or become another person just for one day?

Well too bad- you can’t.

But you sure can help Lord Likely put on all sorts of mustachioed personas in “Lord Likely’s Extra-Ordinary Inter-Active Mustache-O-Rama

In this wonderful (family-chaos-escaping) nugget of internet fun, one is able to adorn this stylish gent with any of 36 mustaches. Each one is cleverly named, ranging from the “Fu-Man Chew” and “The Damned Frenchman” to the much more unique “Strumpet’s Delight” and “The Whore Beater.”

Mustache Music Monday: Your Father’s Mustache Band

without comments

Every once in a while, it gets difficult to find a mustachioed band.

Yes, yes- I know. Why don’t more bands just grow mustaches so that their music can be better? I have no idea. You can take that up with them on your own time.

BUT I DIGRESS. Today, facing the blogger’s worst enemy- a lack of spontaneous material. So, in a last ditch attempt, I googled “Mustache Band.” And I dare say, this internet prospector has done gone struck him some gold.

YES! This google search spawned results, and within the first result! Your Father’s Mustache Band is a jazz band comprised of various well trained and practiced musicians who have been house band “at the Bull & Bush Restaurant and Brewpub in Denver for over 30 years.”

And as far as I can tell, a few of them DO have mustaches of their own.

Mustache Music Monday: Passion Pit

without comments

Yes, yes- it has been a while since I have consistently written Mustache Music Monday. But to make up for it, I bring to you a delightful feature on the band Passion Pit, an indie rock band which has grown quickly in popularity over the past year.

Now lets be honest here- they aren’t fooling anyone with a name so obviously about mustaches. I mean how bold do you need to be to name your band for the passion one feels in the pit of his or her stomach upon spying three staches all in one band.

Note: For those who comment that many of the musicians whom I choose are bearded, not mustachioed- I offer up to you the fact that a mustache makes a man, a beard is merely an accessory to the stache.

Mustache Music Monday: Sun Airway

with 2 comments

So there I was- a student at this college, right? When I find out that there was a free concert by a band I had been listening to of late. So I figure I’ll swing by, grab a t-shirt and a CD- you know, make a casual visit.

But lo and behold- I was drawn in and paralyzed with awe. Why you ask? Well- the classy lip mittens of the band Sun Airway, of course.

And not only did they dazzle me with gorgeous music, they were nice enough to take a picture with my costumed self (Colonel Mustard) as well as sign my new Sun Airway record, Nocturne of Exploded Crystal Chandelier, with all sorts of clever friendly messages.

It’s no wonder they named a song “Waiting on You,”considering these gents are certainly waiting on the rest of the world to catch up with their fantastically full facial fur.

Mustache Music Monday: Sigur Rós

with 2 comments

Well, any regular reader of Stachist will know I love to write little doodads about bands using their song titles. Turns out thats not as easy as you’d imagine when the band sings in Icelandic. Oh? Speak Icelandic you say? Well still not possible since this wonderful band actually created its own language for half of its songs.

YES! That’s right- Iceland’s Sigur Rós actually sings many of its vocals in Volenska (Eng: Hopelandic) a language of gibberish.

But then again, who really needs words when one has a mustache?

Even though the lyrics are indecipherable, they do lend themselves wonderfully to the music.  Sigur Rós offers what I’d like call “mustache walking music”- reflecting that confident calming sensation of knowing that you have a mustache and that you kick ass.

Mustache Music Monday: Boston

without comments

Recognize these beautiful gentlemen? Well, with this Mustache Music Monday, I’ve decided to take it back to the 1970′s, the golden age of the stache, and present you with the band Boston.

I must say, it is a rare luxury to find a band with a majority mustachioed membership, especially with a larger band such as this. So, you don’t have to “Tell Me” about the “Higher Power” that’s “More Than A Feeling” which leaves you with “Peace Of Mind”. I mean, with “Smokin’” mustaches like that, it’s not hard to end up “Feelin’ Satisfied” to the point you “Don’t Look Back”, because everyone else is just gawking at you thinking “that’s “A Man I’ll Never Be”".

But seriously- why can’t the face of music still be that beautiful?
