Last week I finally got the meet Joseph Lohman, the intern who posts more on Stachist these days than I do. He was on spring break and came out to San Francisco to visit his sister. Up to this point we had only collaborated online, along with Dervin, who now lives in Maine. I’m still waiting to meet him.

Anyhoo, we drank some tall boys in Dolores Park and then I snuck him into a bar and we talked about mustaches and paintballing. With that healthy stache there was no way he was going to get carded.

We sent the call and you answered. Well, rather Joseph, our new summer intern answered. Joseph is enjoying the best summer of his life: the summer between high school and university. He has no responsibilities, that is, he didn’t until he elected to write for Stachist. Now we plan on exploiting him to produce content for our silly blog. Well… we’ll at least write him a letter of recommendation.

What Joseph lacks in experience he makes up for in mustache. His lip sweater would make even the most mature of sheriffs jealous. He’ll have no problem buying beer with that baby on his lip. I couldn’t have matched that at his age.

Below are the photos he sent in with his application. How could we not hire him? Follow his posts at stachist.com/authors/lohjoeman

Or things formerly known as fans, now called “Likes.” (Makes perfect sense, right?)

I’ve been waiting for this day with anticipation, checking our number of fans two-, sometimes three times a day and waiting… Waiting for the moment to come and dismayed when it decremented, wondering who the defector could be. One hundred. This means Stachist has hit the big time. Sure, 33% of our likes are our real friends, but hey, enough people who we don’t know (but would like to) were so entertained by our antics that they took the time to click a little blue hyperlink on our Facebook page, agreeing to “become a fan” and proudly display their membership on the Info tab within their profile.

Now if only we could boost our 26 Twitter followers to the same number. C’mon people, don’t you know Twitter is the new Facebook?

I’m full of ideas. The trouble with ideas is that everybody has them. And a lot of times they’re the same. My advice to you, dear readers, is if you have an idea, never ever Google it because you will be disappointed that it’s “been done.” Oh well. You can always do it better.

Anyhoo, while Googling for some mustache rhetoric, I came across MustacheGlory.com. Whoa, I thought. This is exactly like Stachist! Even stranger is Mustache Glory shut its doors right about the same time Stachist began. Their last post was November 19th, 2009. Our first post was September 24th, 2009. So, a 2 month overlap. I don’t know if they saw us coming. I didn’t see them at all. But I feel that we’re carrying-on the mustache blog torch.

Check out the site. Good Mustaches.

This is my friend, Kate (on the right). I don’t know who the guy is on the left; I think he might have been her boyfriend or something. I’m giving her props for coining the them “stachist.” We were talking on gchat and she said that she came up with a new word: stachist. Like fascist. You could also call it stachism, like fascism. Brilliant idea, I thought. Immediately and instinctively I checked if the domain name had been registered, assuming that it probably was, like every other -ist domain name. It wasn’t, I registered it and now here we are 19 posts later and still going strong.

After buying it I realized it seems like a copy of SFist or Gothamist. But whatever. It’s derived from fascist by my friend Kate.

I had been thinking about making a mustache blog for a while and I had crappier .org domain names like savethestache.org and shavethestache.org. Those are no good. Now that I have a solid domain name, I’m motivated, I feel like the blog writes itself. I guess it helps that I’m also kinda sorta unemployed.
